The Story

Italy's second oldest course, six years the senior of St George's Hill

Commissioned by the club, this volume recounts the history of the design of Menaggio & Cadenabbia, above fashionable Lake Como — laid out by its founder members, British ex-pats who consulted reigning Open Champion J H Taylor, first on the original nine holes and then on the extension to a full eighteen.

The course's rich history includes a strong recovery after the Second World War, aided by owners connected to the family of England cricket captain Ted Dexter — and a 1960s purchase by Milanese businessman Antonio Roncoroni, who commissioned an extensive redesign by Commander John Harris.

Told partly through imagined dialogue between J H Taylor, Harris, Roncoroni and the golf writer Bernard Darwin, the book traces the course from its original nine holes to the twenty-first century masterplan.

"Taking us from tee to green on every hole, the new Player's View series from Beckenham will seduce readers and golf clubs alike." — Player's View: Menaggio Review
